13.06.2022 – The most brutal shelling of Donetsk city over the past 8 years. Now with French munitions

On the 13th of June 2022 the Ukro-Nazi forces conducted the most brutal, savage bombardment of Donetsk city that it has seen over the past 8 years of shelling. The bombardment can be comparable to what the residents of Leningrad had to endure from the German Nazis during the blockade of WWII. Some of the cluster munitions that fell on the residential areas of the city were delivered by France, which has now become an accessory to the war crime.

5 people have died, 35 were wounded. Among the targets of the ukro-Nazis was a maternity ward.

As Ukrainian Policy Matters Telegranm channel reported: “The French media published a story about how the artillerymen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine protect Ukraine. The next day, Ukrainian artillery shelled residential areas of the city of Donetsk, which caused fires throughout the city and many civilians were killed. Unfortunately, French TV channels ignored this story.”

“Donetsk, Shakhterskaya Square, now. 86 BM-21 Grad missiles, 14 BM-27 Hurricane missiles, more than 30 155-mm shells were fired at Donetsk IN THE LAST HOUR ALONE:”

More on the Finnish finishing NATO move

I’ve written in my earlier posts about the consequences that Finland will face by abandoning its neutral status and painting a large NATO bullseye on their country: Finland – Life after NATO. More consequences are looming. Before I proceed to translating an article on the matter, let me start off with a few Telegram re-posts on the topic of “NATO does not give Russia guarantees regarding the non-deployment of nuclear weapons in Finland and Sweden if they join the alliance”

Russell gave a very apt response to that:

Another consequence of the NATO-finnazation is outlined in Brian Berletic’s Telegram post:

Finland already begins paying price for NATO membership even before becoming a member.

Reuters reports Finland to build barriers (which requires $) along border with Russia. All just to play along with “Russia bad” narrative at the cost of Finnish treasure and its longstanding ties with Russia.

And on this note let me proceed to the translation of the main article for this post, published on Cont on the 28th of May.

It has started… Russia asked Finland only two territorial questions…

The NATO Secretary General admitted that the plan for accelerated expansion to the north has been thwarted: Finland and Sweden are unlikely to become candidates for membership at the alliance summit in June due to Turkey’s demands. But since then, Russia has had its own questions to Finland and they relate to the status of the territories that are so far managed from Helsinki. So far.

Helsinki was warned: Russia will not turn a blind eye on the fact that the length of its border with NATO countries will increase by about half. The main answer, presumably, will come from the General Staff and will include the relocation of troops and weapons. But there will also be political consequences – Russia and Finland have a long history of “special relations”. We have some pots to break.

A Historical Curiosity: Russian Subjects in Sweden Are Joining NATO

I translated earlier an article outlining one historical discrepancy or paradox that Poland has in-fact reverted to a de-juro state of war with Russia: Polish People’s Republic… Or Not? A Historical Review. Today I want to translate another article digging into another historical anomaly, now in relation to Sweden’s wish to join NATO.

Russian citizens are joining NATO

May 28, 2022, 08:00
Yuri Gorodnenko

While Sweden is rushing into the North Atlantic military bloc, it turned out that the inhabitants of the island of Gotland remain Russian subjects.

The decision to start the procedure for Sweden’s admission to NATO has not yet been made, while Stockholm has already engaged in ensuring the defence of the “left wing” of the Alliance. The Swedish government has allocated $163 million to strengthen the defence of the island of Gotland and sent additional units of its armed forces there.

Rebranding the NAZIs of Azov – a Wolf(sangel) in new Sheep’s clothes

So, The Times is writing that the “Azov” Nazis are changing their Nazi symbology to something more… neutral. Never mind what is in their actual heads – the hatred, the chants of “Ukraine above all”, and all the rest of the Nazi packaging. According to the NATO mouthpiece The Time, it’s only about the symbols, not the actions. And The Times admits that “Azov2” is using the neo-Nazi symbology, but according to them, that is not the problem – the British establishment loves Nazis – it’s that the “Russian propaganda” is “exploiting” this fact that is the problem in their eyes!

In any case, the Blue-Yellow flag of Ukraine (The Ukro-Reich) is more and more equalled to the Red-White-Black flag of the Third Reich, so in all honesty, such rebranding does not help. If a country named “Ukraine” remains” after all is said and done, then it will have to do a deep soul-searching, healing and, yes, a change in its state symbology. Just like what Germany – at least its Eastern part – did after WWII.

This is the popular reaction to this change of clothing, ridiculing this Boggart. Apparently, if one follows the same logic, if only Hitler changed this symbols in time, everything would have been all right

But what can one expect from the Anglo-Saxon/American establishment, who did not see the problem with the Nazis even before WWII…

In the picture below once can see the Wolfsangel symbol – the future marking of the ukro-Nazi “Azov” battalion:

More pictures follow after the translation of the Telegram post below. Note that the USA already did that in the Middle East with the “moderate headchoppers”, sorry, “rebels”.

Russia and LNR prevented a large chemical terrorist act by Ukro-NATO yesterday. Today saw a “smaller” chemical provocation by Kiev. People are disappearing in Odessa

Ukraine commits atrocities against the civilians on a daily basis, and in such quantity that it is almost impossible to keep up with all of them. It feels like the favourite sport of the Ukrainian army is to shoot at the civilian targets – not unlike the thinking of Grand Moff Tarkin when he chose the selection of the target for his shock and awe operation with the Death Star in the Star Wars franchise. One of the latest attacks was against the Russian territory, in Belgorod oblast, where one teenager was killed and 7 other people were wounded after the Ukrainian force shelled a village of no military significance there.

But al that pails in comparison to what Kiev and its USNATO backers are try to pull off – a large scale chemical terrorist act. Yesterday, as the chemical factory “Zarja” (meaning “Dawn”) near town Rubezhnoe (meaning “Frontier”) was liberated from the Ukrainian forces, Russian Electronic Warfare Forces managed to block a remote detonation of a huge number of explosives rigged around various containers and cisterns with acids and other deadly chemicals:

Thousands of tons of ammonia: how, during the retreat of the UAF, the Zarya chemical plant was mined in Rubezhnoye
Anna Nazaykina
May 16, 2022

The People’s Militia of the LPR told how the Armed Forces of Ukraine during their retreat mined the territory of the chemical plant for the production of explosives “Zarya” in the city of Rubezhnoye.

“We discovered that the enemy mined the warehouse with 49 tons of TNT and ammonium, which Ukrainian officers, on the instructions of Polish and American instructors, were going to undermine remotely when leaving positions at the plant,” the PM of the Luhansk People’s Republic said in a statement published on the Teleram channel.

As stated by the People’s Militia, the purpose of mining was detonation, and subsequently spraying in the air of 40 thousand tons of ammonia, nitric and sulfuric acids, benzene and other dangerous substances that were on the territory of the plant.

“In advance, in order to ensure the guaranteed explosion of tanks with toxic chemicals, Ukrainian militants carried out lining of railway trains with bags of ammonium and made additional mining of containers with the most dangerous reagents,” the People’s Militia added.

Thus, more than 300 thousand residents of the city could have ended up in the infected zone, and all forms of life would have guaranteed been destroyed in the radius of 20 kilometres from the epicentre of the explosion, they stressed in the People’s Militia. At the moment, the territory of the chemical enterprise is being examined and evidence of the criminal intent is being recorded.

Finland – Life after NATO

Finland votes to join NATO. Well, to each their own, and Finland choses to exchange a prosperous border trade with almost transparent border without any remotely significant number of troops stationed along it to a locked border with a heavy concentration of military hardware and Helsinki added to the nuclear deterrent target list. If Finland wants to have the longest NATO border with Russia with all the consequences it entails, so be it.

In this post I want to present to translations of articles, one looking back at the history of Finnish-Russian relations, which the Finns prefer not to remember (or, maybe, they do remember, and are afraid of retribution?), and one looking at the possible future consequences, including economic, of the Finnish choice.

Dedicated to the upcoming ascension of Finland into NATO….

Sergey Vasiliev on April 15, 13:45

In 1550, the Swedish king Gustav I Vasa, by his decree, resettled several hundred residents of the city of Borgo, in Finnish – Porvoo, at the mouth of the Vantaa River flowing into the Gulf of Finland, ordering the construction of a commercial port. The river with the local name Helsing had several rapids – in Swedish “fors”, which gave the name of the settlement – Helsingfors. By the time it became part of the Russian Empire under the Friedrichsham Peace Treaty, the city had only four thousand inhabitants. Quite a backwater.

The first thing that Russians always did when they came to the wild lands was to build furiously and selflessly. The poor, shabby former outskirts of Sweden did not escape this fate either. Emperor Alexander I made Helsingfors the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Under Nicholas I, a university was transferred here from the capital, named by him in honour of his brother Alexandrovsky. Alexander II granted the Russian colony its own constitution and a set of rights and freedoms that no one else enjoyed in the metropolis. Finland did not know serfdom. Finns were not recruited into the army even during the World War. They did not pay taxes, but enjoyed all the rights of subjects of the Empire. Finland had schools and gymnasiums with instruction in the Finnish language, had its own parliament and court. Along with the rouble, the Finnish Marka issued by the Bank of Finland was in circulation. The internal market of the principality was protected by customs while Finnish goods crossed the border of the Empire duty-free.

According to the tsarist authorities, all these goodies were supposed to arise a sense of gratitude among the local population, awaken a burst of patriotism and firmly bind the Scandinavian outskirts to the Russian Empire. Everything happened the other way around. Spoiled by the unprecedented benefits and privileges that fell on them for who knows what merits, the Finnish population gradually began to look at the titular people of Russia with disdain, as losers who were not able to organize for themselves the same standard of living as the Scandinavians, basking in the warmth of the tsar.

The Grand Duchy of Finland paid nothing to the treasury of the Russian Empire. The welfare of the natives exceeded the average Russian level. Thanks to this, peasant day-workers came from nearby provinces streamed to the Finnish village. Newcomers in Finland have always been disliked, a rural policeman could detain them, rob them for no reason, simply out of a sense of personal hostility. Archival reports have preserved eyewitness accounts of how, long before the revolution, the robbed peddlers from the Russian villages had to flee from the Finnish “hospitality”, while local policemen shouted: “Kill the damned Russians, nothing will happen to you!”.

Everyday nationalism, growing like a wild flower in the backyard of a Finnish village, as the local intelligentsia formed, successfully attached its root to the Russian treasury, flourished at the beginning of the twentieth century in the high society of the principality. In Finnish opposition newspapers, at first timidly, and then more and more insistently, appeals began to appear: “If we love our country, we need to learn to hate its enemies… Therefore, in the name of our honour and freedom, let our motto sound: “Hate and love! The death of “ryusya”! Or: “Russia has always been and will remain the enemy of humanity and humane development. Has there ever been a benefit from the existence of the Russian people for us? No!”.

A status report from Mariupol, which the West will not tell about

I am presenting below a translation of an article from RIA Novosti (Russian Information Agency). The site, like almost al Russian site, both English-language and Russian-language alike, is blocked in the West, but is accessible through VPN. Alternatively, a repost the article in Russian can be read on Cont. This is not something that is reported in the Western MSM for the sole reason that the Western reporters are studiously looking the other way, like they were looking at Charly Hebdo in 2014 while Donbass was starting to bleed at the hands of the Kiev junta.

“Even foreigners are being captured”: what is happening in the port of Mariupol

Mariupol, the 13th of April, Victor Zvantsev.

The DPR troops blocked the port of Mariupol, where the surviving units of the Azov battalion took refuge. The enemy continues to snarl, but weaker and weaker — ammunition is running out. The nationalist leaders are trying to escape by air, and their subordinates are breaking through on the ground. This RIA Novosti report is about how the seaport was stormed and what its employees tell us.

Chopper with ammunition

Destroyed docks, a burnt—out cargo ship, wrecked loaders, mine shanks stuck in the asphalt – this is how part of the Mariupol port looks like, which came under the control of the republican forces the day before. Behind a long concrete pier, just a couple of hundred meters away, there are Ukrainian positions.

The pier serves as a shelter for gunners, spotters and tankers. After driving out from behind a concrete block, the T-72 turns the tower around, fires three shots and hides again. In response, mines fly, but they fall several tens of meters from the target.

“Although we are already in full control of the situation, the enemy is still strong,” says the shooter of a Separate brigade of the operational purpose of the DNR “Shram” (at his request, the call sign was changed). — A couple of hours ago, for example, our tank was hit. The crew was killed, and the vehicle burned down. We can’t wait for the Nazis to run out of ammunition.”

Did Josep Borrell just invite the Russian Army to Washington?

In the yesterday’s tweet Josep Borrell made one statement, with which I fully agree.

And a screenshot if the tweet is deleted:

There is a saying that one should be careful of one’s wishes lest they become reality, but not in the way one thought they would.

Yes, “this war will be won on the battlefield”, but, just like in the ages past, it will be won by Russia. And extrapolating the not so recent history:

The Napoleonic wars were finished in 1814 by the Russian troops in Paris.

The German Nazi wars was ended in 1945 by the Russian troops in Berlin.

The USNATO Nazi war (with ukro-Nazis as proxies) will be ended in 202x by the Russian troops in… Washington?

The way the economic warfare by the US/EU/NATO is expanded and how the Russian exclave in Kaliningrad is ever more blockaded, it look like the US and EU are all set for an all out hot WWIII…

In the best case scenario, “this war will be won on the battlefield” of Ukraine, with Russia securing the Russian lands, and USNATO, not wishing to push their luck further, will be looking for a diplomatic way out.

Russia is yet again ending a war that others started

It has been said many times before that Russia ends wars that other start. This current denazification of Ukraine is no different.

Russian Foreign Ministry is right in saying:

War in Ukraine started 8 years ago, Russia is now ending it – Moscow

The West spent eight years ignoring the “sea of blood” in Donbass while arming Ukraine, and now claims Moscow is the aggressor when it stepped in to end the conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told RT on Thursday.

“Russia did not commit aggression of any kind,” Zakharova insisted. “This did not start yesterday. There’s a sea of blood that’s appeared over the past 8 years,” she added, referring to the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which Russia on Monday recognized as independent states.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Ukrainian transgressions, while recounting the history of the Rus lands on these pages since the NATO-backed NAZI coup d’etat of 2014… The NAZI atrocities are well-documented in these July 2014 archived posts: https://stanislavs.org/2014/07/

In 2014 the following strip appeared to show the concerned bear, looking askance at the growing bloody tentacles of NATO. The time for pruning has come, to add those tentacles to the compost heap of History, where 1812, 1853, 1941 and many other tentacles are deposited.

On the brink of WWIII. Will NATO push for it 76 years after the NAZI defeat?

One of my first posts on this blog was Is the West gearing up to invade Russia once again?, which looked at some historic parallels from the previous pre-invasion periods, and noticing some similarities. The article was written in June 2014, and the rhetoric question is still very much valid, even more so after the developments of these past 3 weeks.

The reports are worrying, with Ukrainian forces executing one provocation after. A few days ago a 5-year-old child was killed when Ukro-nazis dropped an explosive charge on a residential house from a drone.

And now With tensions rising in Donbass, Ukraine pulls out of Minsk peace talks: Kiev refuses to meet Russia & OSCE in Belarusian capital

Yesterday, Paul Robinson, a professor at the University of Ottawa, in his article Reports of Russian troops ‘massing’ near Ukraine miss the mark: Russia-Ukraine war is possible, but only if Ukraine strikes first echoed the conclusions in Rostislav Ischenoko’s article “On the edge: Who will blink first?”, which I am translating in full below.

On the edge: Who will blink first?

The situation in the long-suffering Ukraine (without any irony to the country and its people) is developing in such a way that it can be stated that the parties interested in the, possibly armed, conflict have completed the pre-war preparatory measures, at least in the diplomatic sphere. After that, either someone has to give in, or the next step forward means war.

At the same time, Russia cannot have a “large—scale” war with Ukraine – they are in different weight categories. Ukraine is not even able to conquer Donbass. Kiev’s participation in a direct military clash with Moscow, even as part of a group of states, will mean for Ukraine an almost instantaneous destruction as a political entity.

At the same time, Ukraine acts only as a provocateur of the first strike. Its task is to somehow signify to the world community Russia’s participation in the military conflict.

Next, the United States intends to unleash a European war, with the participation of at least a few Eastern European countries, members of NATO and the EU. This will allow them to put pressure on their Western European allies, who do not want a conflict with Russia, demanding that they decide: if they are with Moscow or with NATO.

Newsflash: Russia tries to stop the looming West-instigaed all-out war in Donbass

Just in on RT!

Kremlin says situation in Donbass ‘frightening’ as Ukraine calls on NATO & Washington for support in event of conflict with Russia

Moscow has warned that fighting is escalating in eastern Ukraine, insisting that the region must avoid a full-scale conflict, as Kiev asks NATO to step up its local combat readiness and says the US would come to its aid in a war.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a series of military clashes in the Donbass region was a cause for concern. “Unfortunately for us,” he said, “the reality on the line of contact is quite frightening, and not just one, but many, provocations by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are taking place.”

Moscow warns of ‘measures’ against any Western troop deployment in Ukraine, as Kiev cites guarantees of US support in a conflict

Russia has warned that it would regard any deployment of Western troops in Ukraine as a serious provocation, after Kiev asked NATO to step up its local combat readiness and claimed the US would come to its aid in any future war.

On Friday, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry issued a statement saying that it had received guarantees of American support after a telephone call with Washington’s top military official, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austen. “The US Secretary of Defense stressed that in the event of an escalation of Russian aggression, the United States will not leave Ukraine alone,” the Ministry said.

Asked about the prospects of a standoff in the region, Peskov warned that this could begin a potentially dangerous chain of events. The Kremlin official said that “undoubtedly, such a developing scenario would lead to a further increase in tensions near Russia’s borders. Of course, this will require additional measures from the Russian side to ensure its security.”

Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of Crimea’s Reunification with Russia

This March marks 5 years since the people of Crimea overwhelmingly voted in favour of reunification with the rest of Russia. This event was preceded by a violent Western-sponsored coup d’etat in Ukraine, which removed there the legitimate government and left Ukraine without any constitutional government for several months. De facto Ukraine was ruled by the US/EU-approved Ukro-Nazi mod, which saw as its mission eradication of everything Russian in Ukraine. And Crimea stood high on their list of territories to be depopulated from the Russians.

USA had its own interests in Crimea, having scouted it for its new US-NATO military base. Crimea would have become another Kosovo for the US-NATO, Kosovo, which was split off from Serbia in a savage aggression on Yugoslavia by the US-NATO in March 1999 and lead to the establishment one of the largest US-NATO military bases in Europe – Camp Bondsteel, which Graham Phillips documented in his latest reportage.

And then “The Third Siege of Crimea” – as the locals call it, the longest 25-year-long siege, ended and Crimea reunited with its motherland!

The Crimeans overwhelmingly voted for the reunification, exercising their right under the international law and the UN charter of people’s right to self-determination. It was not the first time the Crimeans voted for the reunification, but this time it worked, while in 1991 the results were ignored and suppressed.

Whatever passed between Russia and Ukraine in 1954, it was not sovereignty over Crimea. The Union States did not have sovereignty over the autonomous bodies within them. The USSR had sovereignty over both of them. According to the Constitution the Supreme Soviet would determine the fate of the autonomies if a state seceded.

USSR Law of Secession: “The people residing in the autonomies are given a right to independently decide whether to remain in the Soviet Union or in the seceding Republic as well as to decide on their state legal status.”

Crimean Referendum Jan. 20, 1991: “Do you support re-establishing the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic as a subject of the Union SSR and a participant of the Union Treaty?”

— 94.3% yes —

As 2.5 million Crimeans celebrated, the West was gnashing its collective teeth as the loss of a prospective military base for the USA to put their missiles aimed at Moscow. Sanctions followed, trying to punish the Crimeans for their choice. Ukraine, with the Western blessing, blew up the electric power lines as well as left the peninsular without water, leading to a large-scale humanitarian disaster. No-one bombed the Obama regime for organising it, but Russia rather quickly managed to restore both water and power to the peninsular through a dedicated infrastructure bridge.

More sanctions followed from the West. The Russians felts especially betrayed by the Germans – only in 1989 Gorbachev, against the strategic interests of the USSR, and to the hollow NATO promises of “not one inch East of Berlin”, green-lighted the reunification of the German people. And that is how the Germans repaid when the Russian people reunified – by slapping on sanctions.

Time passed, and Russia continued to undo the damage done to Crimea by the 25 years of Ukrainian neglect. They built new infrastructures, built new international airport, built a large mosque for the Crimean Tatars and recognised their language as one of the three official languages in Crimea (something Ukraine promised to do, but never did), they built the miracle of engineering – the Kerch railway and motor bridge, they restored Artec.

Looking back at 2014, when this revival started, I found my copy of Argumenty i Facty from the 18th of March 2014, which I keep as a valuable memento – akin to how our grandfathers would have kept newspapers announcing the end of WWII. Here is the facsimile of its front page.

US-NATO Mission accomplished: Country destroyed, people killed

Reprinting Russia Inside translated article The Extent of NATO’s Destruction in Yugoslavia from March 2015. There is not really much one can add to it…

16 years ago, without a UN Security Resolution, NATO started an illegal attack on Yugoslavia. Today commemorative ceremonies will take place all over the country. Tanjug presents the figures that show the massive destruction of the country and loss of life.

Mission accomplished: Country destroyed, people killed

On the 24th of March in 1999, without a Security Council Resolution, NATO started the military attack on Yugoslavia [Serbia and Montenegro].

Yugoslavia, allegedly responsible for the ‘humanitarian catastrophy’ in Kosovo and Metohija, was attacked after the so-called Rambouillet negotiations about the future status of Kosovo failed. The Rambouillet agreement foresaw the deployment of NATO forces on the territory of Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav party didn’t want NATO forces on its territory and suggested UN troops should be deployed instead, to oversee the implementation of the Rambouillet agreement, which was also confirmed by the Yugoslavian parliament.

Unsatisfied, NATO unleashed a massive military onslaught on the small country and its people, which led to massive destruction and loss of lives. General Wesley Clark, who led the campaign, admitted in his book ‘Modern Warfare’ that the planning and preparations for the war were already underway in summer 1998 and finalized in August 1998. Which actually implies that Rambouillet never really had a chance of succeeding.

Today “Tanjug” listed some figures that were released by the Serbian Government, that show the devastating results and the destruction of the country by the NATO led attack:

20 Years Since US-NATO War-criminal Invasion of Yugoslavia and Declaration of War on Russia

20 years ago, on March 24 1999, the US-NATO and its accomplices started an invasion and bombing of Yugoslavia. This was done under false pretence and constituted the war crimes and crimes against humanity on the part of the following countries: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United, Kingdom, United States.

The aggression was directed against the Serbian people, and the Serbs are as close a brotherly nation to the Russians as one can get. A sure way to declare a war on Russia, as WWI shows, is to attack Serbia. In effect, that is what US-NATO did. 1999 became a watershed in the post-USSR American-Russian relations. Whereas before the attack on Yugoslavia, the Russians viewed the USA as a potential equal partner, a friend, then after 1999 the rosy naïve glasses fell off and Russians saw the USA for what it is – a gluttonous monster, only capable of grabbing and destroying, and entity, with which Russia will not be able to find a common cooperative ground.

In 1999 US-NATO declared a war on Russia. Yes, Russia was weak and pillages by the local crime gangs and the American foreign rule under the puppet leader of Yeltsin. The Wild 90s were at their darkest time. But the invasion of Yugoslavia became that rude awakening for Russia, which it needed to come back from the brink of death. And in that the sacrifice that Yugoslavia, the Serbs paid, was not in vain – it allowed to awaken the only force capable of curtailing the greedy and murderous ambition of the US-NATO.

Back then there was no wide-spread Internet, and getting at alternative information was still fairly difficult. The Western MSM ruled supreme, spreading the disinformation and manipulating imagery. Still, the US-NATO aggression against the Serbs awoke quite a few people in the West too. I remember that in Norway, Loesje had anti-war campaign posters displayed in the public transportation on the spots, where one would typically see commercial ads. “Where are the NATO cheerleaders?” read one of them.

Another NATO Lie Exposed – Not a Step Eastwards Were Empty Words

Last week saw another major newsworthy event that had the honour of being completely and silently ignored by the Western MSM. And that is no wonder. For one, the news item reaffirmed what was said before, and vehemently denied by USNATO: the reassurance given to Gorbachev that the block would not be expanding Eastwards of the Eastern Germany’s Border once the West (read: USA) got control of the whole of Germany.

The extensive report from the National security Archive, titled “NATO Expansion: What Gorbachev Heard” demonstrates that assurances were, indeed, given from various NATO politicians and military top brass.

However, not even 10 years passed when the military block, having seen no repercussions for invading, bombing and demolishing the sovereign state of Yugoslavia – in breach of the international law, set its course Eastwards, creeping ever closer to the Russian borders, all the while increasing the demonising rhetoric aimed at Russia. You can see the dynamics of the expansion on the map below:

And so, the news, as published in RT:

Gorbachev WAS promised NATO would not expand east – declassified docs

In 1990, Western politicians repeatedly assured Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev that NATO wouldn’t expand east of Germany’s borders, but broke that promise less than a decade later, say insider archives from both sides of negotiations following the dismantling of the Berlin Wall.

Researchers from the respected George Washington University-based National Security Archive, which specializes in obtaining key declassified information from the government, have put together 30 crucial documents that clearly show several top Western officials vowing to Gorbachev in unison that NATO would not expand eastward. Some of these have been publicly available for several years, others have been revealed as a result of Freedom of Information requests for the study.

Other free and independent media published their own articles and commentary to the revelation. Here is an article from Russia Insider, republishing the article from National Interest:

Newly Declassified Documents: Gorbachev WAS PROMISED Numerous Times NATO Wouldn’t Move Past East German Border

Just take a look at the number of assurances given!

The West lied to Moscow and then lied about the lying. It can’t lie any longer.

Gorbachev only accepted German reunification—over which the Soviet Union had a legal right to veto under treaty—because he received assurances that NATO would not expand after he withdrew his forces from Eastern Europe from:

    James Baker,
    President George H.W. Bush,
West German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher,
    West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl,
    the CIA Director Robert Gates,
    French President Francois Mitterrand,
    British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher,
    British foreign minister Douglas Hurd,
    British Prime Minister John Major,
    and NATO secretary-general Manfred Woerner.

One very chilling fragment is the quotation of a prophetic interview of the American diplomat George F. Kennan:

“Expanding NATO would be the most fateful error of American policy in the entire post-cold-war era,” Kennan wrote on February 5, 1997 in a New York Times op-ed. “Such a decision may be expected to inflame the nationalistic, anti-Western and militaristic tendencies in Russian opinion; to have an adverse effect on the development of Russian democracy; to restore the atmosphere of the cold war to East-West relations, and to impel Russian foreign policy in directions decidedly not to our liking.”

Kennan’s sage advice was ignored, and the exact scenario he warned about has today come to pass. More than 25 years after the end of the Cold War, relations between Moscow and Washington are at their lowest point since the fall of the Soviet Union. Indeed, some have suggested that the United States and Russia are entering into a new cold war of sorts.

USA surely shot itself in the foot there, but, in a way, that was a positive move to awaken Russia from its self-destructive complacency.

Lada Ray offers some more insight in her expanded commentary to the Rt article in:

New Documents Prove US Lied to Gorbachev and Broke Promise of NATO Eastward Non-Expansion

The evidence presented in the video above shows without a shadow of a doubt that US/Germany/EU/NATO lied and swindled Russia and the USSR. The temporary weakness of Russia was used as an excuse to break promises. Moreover, Germany never paid in full the agreed upon compensation for the withdrawal of Soviet troops, and we are talking billions of euros (plus close to 30 years worth of intrest!). This Germany denies as well, but I’m sure the documents to that effect will also come to light in due course. By the way, I have discussed this issue in Earth Shift Webinar 6: THE PUTIN ENIGMA.

EDIT:
Today Russia Insider published a follow-up article by Eric Magrolis, someone who was there as the historical move and the historical lie happened:
‘Sorry Chump, You Didn’t Have it in Writing’

The Poles, Hungarians and Czechs were brought into NATO, then Romania and Bulgaria, the Baltic States, Albania, and Montenegro. Washington tried to get the former Soviet Republics of Georgia and Ukraine into NATO. The Moscow-aligned government of Ukraine was overthrown in a US-engineered coup. The road to Moscow was open.

All the bankrupt, confused Russians could do was denounce these eastward moves by the US and NATO. The best response NATO and Washington could come up with was, ‘well, there was no official written promise.’ This is worthy of a street peddler selling counterfeit watches.

By the way, consider this paragraph, and dwell on the numbers:

Gorbachev was a humanist, a very decent, intelligent man who believed he could end the Cold War and nuclear arms race. He ordered the Red Army back from Eastern Europe. I was in Wunsdorf, East Germany, HQ of the Group of Soviet Forces, Germany, and at Stasi secret police HQ in East Berlin right after the pullout order was given. The Soviets withdrew their 338,000 troops and 4,200 tanks and sent them home at lightening speed.

Soviet Union was not prepared to take that large a number of servicemen back – there was no local infrastructure, no prepared dislocation settlements. All this put a huge additional economic strain on the already ailing economy of the USSR, and was one of the many blows, dealt to it by the West.
