“Racially pure” technologies. There is an ongoing fit of Russophobia in science and IT

If one wonders how fascism took hold of Germany in 1930s, look no further, than at Europe of 2020s! Here we present an article published in “Argumeny i Fakty” from October 24, 2024 that shows just one of the many exhibits on this path.

“Racially pure” technologies. There is an ongoing fit of Russophobia in science and IT

The wave of extreme Russophobia, deliberately launched by the West in 2022 and covering literally all spheres of life, from sports to dog shows, has not gone away. Rather, we have developed a habit for such things, because of which we sometimes do not notice new manifestations of the frenzy of hatred.

Linux without Russians

Linux, which develops operating systems based on the original kernel, announced the suspension of 11 people associated with Russia.

The main developer of the Linux operating system kernel, Greg Kroa-Hartman, announced that this was done “due to various compliance requirements”.

This story might not have caused a lot of noise, because everyone has long been accustomed to the sanctions pressure that arises everywhere. However, 54-year-old Linus Torvalds, a legend in the world of digital technologies, the founding father of Linux, and a member of the Internet Hall of Fame, decided to intervene in the case.

Since there was an active discussion on the Internet about what happened, Torvalds decided to clarify his position:

Ok, lots of Russian trolls out and about.

It’s entirely clear why the change was done, it’s not getting reverted, and using multiple random anonymous accounts to try to “grass root” it by Russian troll factories isn’t going to change anything.

And FYI for the actual innocent bystanders who aren’t troll farm accounts – the “various compliance requirements” are not just a US thing.

If you haven’t heard of Russian sanctions yet, you should try to read the news some day. And by “news”, I don’t mean Russian state-sponsored spam.

As to sending me a revert patch – please use whatever mush you call brains. I’m Finnish. Did you think I’d be *supporting* Russian aggression? Apparently it’s not just lack of real news, it’s lack of history knowledge too.

A fit of Nazism with a member of the Internet Hall of Fame

The Finnish poster “Road to Freedom” from the 22nd of June 1941, depicting the whole future EU baring its teeth on the USSR.

But then Torvalds gave out something completely outstanding: “As for sending me a correction, please use your brains, as you call it. I’m a Finn. Did you really think that I would support Russian aggression?” And then the Internet legend accused the discontented of a “lack of knowledge of history”.

One has to wonder what kind of knowledge of history Linus Torvalds had in mind? The memory of the Finns’ participation in the siege of Leningrad? Memories of concentration camps for civilians, including children, in Finnish-occupied Karelia? Or data on how the Finns destroyed Soviet prisoners of war?

Here we want to make a digression with several relevant links to the articles at the Beehive, as well as at our Telegram channel “Beorn And The Shieldmaiden”, and let the reader decide on the merit of Linus’ historical prowess:

But at least Linus Torvalds is honest — the luminary of the high-tech world has openly demonstrated his Nazi beliefs. It’s not just about sanctions, but the fact that he harbours hatred for Russians on a national basis.

Torvalds can still be understood — the Finn was obsessed with revanchism and worship of ancestors who served Hitler.

How the Russian “relocants” were “discarded”: dislike of the regime did not save them from being fired

In the autumn of 2024, it became known that the ABBYY IT company had put Russian specialists “under the knife”. In just one hour, Russians who worked in offices in Cyprus, Belgrade and Budapest were fired. The company explained such actions in a comment by RBC as “entering the path of business transformation and reorganization.”

The nuance is that ABBYY was founded in 1989 by MIPT (Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) graduate David Yan and successfully operated in Russia until 2022.

Mr. Yang himself, after the start of his campaign, curtailed his activities in our country, declaring: “Now everything that concerns Russia is very toxic in the world.”

At the same time, it turned out to be difficult to completely part with the money of the native Fatherland, a regional branch remained in the country, which became an independent income-generating company.

Those who sympathises with Mr. Yang and finances him, today should be dealt with by the folks from the tax offices and security offices. But in the story of the discarding of Russians in the European offices, there is an important detail — these “relocants” were taken to new places of work by ABBYY itself. Naturally, preference was given to those who, like the main boss, abruptly found Russia “toxic”. And then, two years later, all this audience was literally “flushed down the toilet” on the basis of nationality.

It seems that the liberation from the chimera called conscience among the “generals” of the high-tech industry has taken on the character of an epidemic.

Russians are not allowed close to the Higgs boson: the racial commission at the Large Hadron Collider

The situation is no better in fundamental science. Once upon a time, no less than an Apocalypse was expected from the launch of the Large Hadron Collider. The LHC did not justify the hopes of fans of the “end of the world”, but in 2024 it pleased Russophobes. In the spring, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) announced the termination of cooperation with specialists who have any ties with the Russian Federation and Belarus. And there are about 500 such people.

It turns out that the study of Higgs bosons is not much different from the Olympic Games — Russian scientists were offered to receive a “neutral status”. To be more precise, to go to work in scientific organizations that will have nothing to do with Minsk or Moscow.

But what about international scientific cooperation for the benefit of all mankind? Forget it. The final separation of Russian and Belarusian scientists from the LHC will be formalised in November 2024.

Who doesn’t remember good old Einstein?

And here it is again high time to talk about historical memory. 90 years ago, Germany decided to purge science of the wrong elements. Nobel Prize winner in physics Philippe Lenard directly pointed out the name of the main enemy:

“The most important example of the dangerous influence of Jewish circles on the study of nature is presented by Einstein with his theories and mathematical chatter made up of old information and arbitrary additions… We must understand that it is unworthy of a German to be a spiritual follower of a Jew.”

Albert Einstein was kicked out of the country and went to the United States. It is well known how it all ended for Germany.

So who doesn’t know history and doesn’t learn anything? In my opinion, this is obvious. The “skirmishers” of the modern Russophobia campaign face a bleak future. But so far they think otherwise.
