To get a feel of what legacy Yeltsin left behind, and what kind of people get attracted to it, we published several posts at out Telegram channel “Beorn And The Shieldmaiden”, using one specific case as an example, and commenting along the way.
The country must know its antiheroes
Yeltsin Centre in Yekaterinburg invited a patented russophobe Nina Hrusheva — the great-granddaughter of Nikita Hrushev. Yes, the very same who got the top position in the USSR in exchange for the unconstitutional transfer of Crimea to UkSSR, the same who black-paintes Stalin and his legacy, the same who initiated the future dismemberment of the USSR.
Nina Hrusheva, a citizen of the USA, was to present her book «Nikita Hrushev. A Leader Outside of the System.»
Getting ahead, it was announced that Hrusheva’s visit was cancelled «for technical reasons». And good riddance!
We shall talk about Yeltsin Centre in a different post. Now, let’s take a closer look at Nina Hrusheva… UralLIVE reports:

She wants to dismember Russia and judge Putin. Meet the new guest of the Yeltsin Center
Nikita Khrushchev’s great-granddaughter went crazy and betrayed her motherland
On November 26, a speech by Nina Hrushcheva, professor at the New School University in New York, was announced at the Yeltsin Center. She is the great-granddaughter of Nikita Khrushchev, through whose fault Crimea became part of the Ukrainian SSR.
Nina Hrushcheva is known for her radically anti-Russian rhetoric, which she voices mainly in the Western media.
Thus, in an interview with Estonian journalists, the professor calls for “federalisation of Russia,” in which “some parts [of the country] will disappear, some will remain.” Hrushcheva suggests “selling the Kuril Islands to Japan” (and adds — “it’s too late now”) and “turning Kaliningrad into Koningsberg or making it independent.”
Hrushcheva is obsessed with the idea of recognising the collective guilt of the Russians as a nation for the start of the SMO. Russia must collapse, the professor is sure.
— It is very scary to come and tell or convince a nation with a population of 145 million people in 11 time zones that we are guilty as a nation. It will be very difficult to convince the Empire of their guilt, — says Hrushcheva. — The big question is how a monolith covering 11 time zones, such as Russia, will collapse. How to turn it into a federation.
The entry of new regions of the Russian Federation in September 2022 is assessed by Hrushchev as an “illegal annexation of the territory of a sovereign country”. Also, the great-granddaughter of the Soviet leader calls for “judging” Putin for starting the SMO in a publication in «The Independent».
Inviting such an outspoken Russophobe in the conditions of an ongoing war is nonsense even for the Yeltsin Center.

Here is a selection of her statements:
😡 I hope Russia will federalize. Some parts will fall off, some will remain.
😡 The big question is how a monolith spanning 11 time zones, such as Russia, will collapse. How to turn it into a federation.
😡 Russia is guilty as a nation.
😡 As long as Putin is alive and in power, the Ukrainian conflict will not be completely resolved.
😡 Zelensky defends the democratic values of Europe with his fight against Russia.
The web is full of her quotes and videos, with varying degrees of Russophobia. She has been hating Russia for a long time and from all her heart. And here comes the question. Why is this citizen in the Yeltsin Center?
Maybe it’s time for the Yeltsin Center to finally take off its mask and arrange an exhibition «Hitler, the Liberator»?
♦️♦️♦️
So, she wants «to federalise» Russian Federation, the heir of the USSR and RSFSR — the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. Russia, which even during the time of the Russian Empire had some elements of a federation, when Finland and Poland were concerned.
She should have also stated her intention to federalise USA, Germany, Switzerland…
Or maybe she meant «to destroy»?
A rhetorical question from us…
The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation is checking Nikita Hrushchev’s great-granddaughter for espionage
According to SHOT, Nina Hrushcheva, who has on multiple occasions condemned the SMO and talked about the dismemberment of Russia, is being checked by the Moscow prosecutor’s office. There they became interested in her statements, highlighted the public figures from the “Call of the People” movement .
Nina Hrushcheva has been living in the USA for the last 33 years, working as a professor at the New School in New York. Her great-grandfather, Nikita Hrushchev, was the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1953-1964), who in 1954 transferred Crimea from the RSFSR to Ukrainian SSR.
Yeltsin Center: the liberal vipers’ nest
Opened in November of 2015 in the city of Yekaterinburg, the new shiny façade and the glittering decor of the «Yeltsin Center» — with many a rotten dealing under the wraps — has become the material illustration of the «liberal values».
The Yeltsin Center was established in accordance with the 2008 law “On the Centers of Historical Heritage of the Presidents of the Russian Federation who ceased to exercise their powers” — to preserve, study and publicly present Yeltsin’s legacy “in the context of the modern history of the fatherland, the development of democratic institutions and the construction of a rule of law”.
Many of the center’s projects were initiated by the Yeltsin Private Foundation, founded in 2000, headed by Yeltsin’s daughter Tatyana Yumasheva.

The reaction from the Russian population was largely nonplussed: why? to which purpose? Read for example the lament below:
⚡️⚡️⚡️
It is such a good question, how come that during the third year of the war, in the Urals, the Yeltsin Center, funded by tens of billions of state dollars, would even have invited Hitler if he were alive?
How come, during this very war, an open opponent to the SMO and an LGBT activist could give a talk there?
How come they take schoolchildren from all over the region to the place where they push the dictionary “To Live in Russia Is to Rot”, where a letter against the SMO has been hanging for several months?
Is this some kind of tribute from the Urals to Western elites? Is there some kind of invisible commitment from Yekaterinburg to be the center of the destruction of the country from within? To whom do we owe this penalty?
⚡️⚡️⚡️
And yes, Yeltsin Centre is financed by the Russian state, as summarised by another post from the same channel:
Well, to understand how much is spent on the Yeltsin Center — you don’t think they exist on their own, do you? They can’t do that – all the Russophobia is done strictly on budget funds:
‼️ Spending of the Russian budget on the Yeltsin Center will increase by 20% in two years. The corresponding item of expenditure is provided for in the draft budget for 2022-2024. In 2022, it is planned to spend 367 million 970 thousand roubles on the center. In 2023, expenses will increase to 372 million 274 thousand rubles, and in 2024 expenses will amount to 376 million 749 thousand. In total, the budget of the Yeltsin Center for three years will exceed 1.1 billion rubles — it was reported my the media 10/20/2021
‼️ Since 2010, 19.7 billion roubles have been spent on the maintenance of the Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg (from) Nakanuner, 06/23/2023
‼️ The leadership of the Yeltsin Center withdrew hundreds of millions of roubles from accounts through gaskets companies Source 11/17/2024
And so on, throughout the history of the Yeltsin Center, even in matters of utility costs:
‼️ Deputies of the Sverdlovsk region approved the decision of the regional authorities to write off the Yeltsin Center’s interest on the debt of 598 million roubles (from 02.11.2017)
‼️ Yeltsin Center owes 18 million roubles for utilities (from October 11, 2022)

With all of that negativity, with all the open contradictions with the interests of the Russian state, why, indeed, is this center still operational?
The liberal forces are still strong in Russia, even with the exodus of the more visible liberals after the start of the SMO. One small glimmer of hope is that with each passing year, with each undermining activity, with each monetary fraud, Yeltsin Center is digging its own grave. And in the meantime it inadvertently acts as a honey trap for the liberals, exposing them in the eyes of the public.
Yeltsin Center — a symbol of betrayal and destruction of the Motherland — should have no place either in Moscow or in Russia in general!
Statement by delegates of the LIII [53rd] Conference of the Moscow City Department of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
We, the delegates of the Conference, express our resolute protest against attempts to glorify the haters and destroyers of our Motherland, against the opening of a branch of the Yeltsin Center in Moscow, against the functioning of this hotbed of rootless cosmopolitanism, terry anti-Communism, anti-Sovietism and Russophobia.
The glorification of Boris Yeltsin’s activities observed over the past years, the perpetuation of his memory, and the public positive assessments of the first president of the Russian Federation by high-ranking government leaders leave no doubt about the intention of the ruling circles to mold a national hero from a person who, with his activities, caused enormous damage to our Motherland.
It is impossible to call for national heroes those figures who destroyed our common Motherland, which had been gathered for centuries, subordinated domestic and foreign policy to the interests of foreign states and thereby contributed to the destruction of industrial, defense, scientific, technical, cultural potential, as well as the impoverishment and extinction of the people. The colossal damage inflicted on the economy and society, comparable only to the consequences of the Nazi invasion, was accompanied by the fabulous enrichment of a handful of ghouls-oligarchs due to the plundering of the national treasure. Any reverence for someone who called for “blessing America” and curried favour with Russia’s international opponents is perhaps even more cynical and immoral than praising the traitor Vlasov, the bloody ataman Krasnov, the hater of the USSR Bandera and other collaborators.
‼️Yeltsin Center can only be a monument to the victims of predatory “market reforms”, a black obelisk in memory of the victims of armed conflicts provoked by the collapse of the USSR, rampant criminality during the so-called democratic transformations, a sad memorial in honour of the defenders of the Constitution and democracy killed by the Yeltsin regime during the “Black October” of 1993.
The current plans of the authorities to open a branch of the Yekaterinburg Yeltsin Center in Moscow are due not only and not so much to the desire of the high state leadership to emphasise their own sympathy for the former president of Russia, the destroyer of a great country. Publicly giving positive assessments of Yeltsin’s deeds, the ruling class signals its own desire to continue the course of liberal “reforms” that he had begun.
The rejection of the systemic nationalisation of strategic industries, the continuation of the privatisation of state property, the bet on preserving Russia’s membership in the WTO, budget policy satisfying the whims of bureaucracy and oligarchy, giving a handful of rich people free hand in exploiting workers, curtailing social guarantees – this is a genuine confirmation of the continuation of the imposition by the authorities of the Yeltsin-Gaidar recipes and scenarios disastrous for the country.
Such a policy deprives Russia of the chances of any victory, delivers it to the slaughter of international capital and creates conditions conducive to the full implementation of the villainous plans of the “globalists” to divide our country into a conglomerate of Western colonies.
In the context of Russia conducting the SMO and the ensuing need to take systematic measures to strengthen the patriotic consciousness of the people, especially among the younger generation, it is important to promote the activities and achievements of historical figures who have made a significant contribution to strengthening the power of our country, its status as a Great Power, who have proved their ability to defend the borders of our Motherland.
The delegates of the Conference, on behalf of the Communists of the capital, strongly demand to completely abandon the idea of opening of a branch of Yeltsin Center in Moscow, as well as to close its head office in Yekaterinburg.
At the same time, it is necessary to raise the issue of recognising Boris Yeltsin, at the state level, as a foreign agent and a traitor to the Motherland.
On their banner is Yeltsin, on our banner is Lenin!
Down with the decommunisers, anti-Soviets and Russophobes!
Convert Yeltsin Center into the Palace of youth creativity!
