The latest version for Half-Life is 50.
17.11.2004: Almost year later: I am sitting with a manic grin on my face - Half-Life 2 DVD Collector's Edition has just been delivered on my doorstep. But before AQOP can continue I must: 1) be done with my Naster degree; 2) play Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 1:Source; 3) figure out all the new requirements for modelling and mapping. In other words, there will not be a lot of activity here for at least another half a year. Thanks for everyone who is waiting, though (and I meand you both!) :)
01.12.2003: The new update is published. It includes an extended lower basement, with several restricted areas, which are not accesible to others than the technical team, such as the heating central. Van der Graaf has been corrected. The deathmatch maps are now included with the main distribution and feature the latest state of fvest and fmid maps. There have been added some new screenshots in funder section and several low-res photos.
10.11.2003: After a long period of suspence in awaiting of HL2, the next version of AQOP for HL1 is finally published. The changes include:
- The Western Wing has been re-sacaled and is now within 5cm accuracy of the original building in its width. The length will be corrected after HL2 is released in April and all the maps are merged.
- The structural part of the lower basement (funder) is in place for the Western Wing. This includes Van Deg Graaf and the 100 meter corridor.
- Added a few HINT brushes to fvest and thus reduced VIS compile time by 2 to only 10 hours; and improved visibility accuracy.
- The Game Title is now included in the sprites and is used before the briefing.
- The default Field of Vision has been changed from 90 degrees to 78 degrees. This reduces the fish-eye effect somewhat, while still allowing to compensate for the human eye's perepherial vision.
- Use of Spirit of Half-Life 1.1 as the new code base. This allows for a lag-free multiplayer support, so expect the MP versions of fvest and fmid in their latest state.
New screenshot have been added to the Media Files section, funder subsection.
05.11.2003: There are 4 screenshots added to the collection of funder map, featuring Van Der Graaf. I have completed the rescaling of the maps, which propagated to both fmid and funder maps. At the moment I am working on filling the Western part of the funder map - basement, lower basement and the Van Der Graaf room. Before a new release is made, I plan to complete this work. In addition, Spirit of Half-Life has been released in version 1.1, which is based on version 2.3 of the SDK. This promises a lag-free multiplayer game. Thus the next release of AQOP will be ported to Spirit 1.1 with further lans of publishing the multiplayer version of fvest and fmid maps as they appear at the present. I hope to publish version 49 of AQOP after the week-end.
21.10.2003: I am working now on a rescale of the West Wing, which lacked about 1 meter in the width. In the process it appeared that rescaling affected more parts of the building that I was first aware of. However, the final result will be a more accurate building. I expect to post a patch in 3 or 4 day's time, proceeding to work on the funder map after that.
28.09.2003: Half-Life2 seems to be delayed, with no definite release date set, so not to get bored in the meantime, I consider resuming mapping for the project. The most probable candidate for the expansion will be the lower basement map as it does not contain a lot of details that will be difficult to port later. A patch will probably come in about three weeks' time.
31.08.2003: The "Screenshots" section has been renamed to "Media files" to denote the contents more accurately. I have added a new set of images to the Media - a set of panoramic view images of Majorstuen and Upper Blindern, the surroundings of the Department of Physics.
27.08.2003: The site is now stable, with the last changes to the screenshot section secured. The new feature is the ability to select viewing in a frame or in a pop-up window. The section now features an extencive collection of photos from the Department of Physics. There you will also find fire escape plans of each floor, that are used in the mapping process.
12.08.2003: For those, who have not noticed - the project's site has been largely modified to make use of frames. I hope it will improve readability abd accessability of the content. This is also a step taken in preparation for Half-Life 2.
27.07.2003: I have enhanced and published a set of frames from the "flashing" sequence at the end of the E3 preview movie which feature quantum physics expressions essetial to understanding of the HL2 plot. They can be found here.
21.07.2003: Taking into concideration the new information about Half-Life2 and its increased map resources, I have decided to suspend all mapping work on A Question of Physics for HL1. Mapping will be resumed after the release of the SDK for HL2 sometime in August. The new information can be found at VERC in the following FAQ and on this halflife2.net forum thread.
Presently I will be working on scanning the floor plans and bringing them into consistency with each other. After this work is done, there will be a new section on the web-site, where the original fire escape floor plans and some photos of the building will be published.
