Dear B,
What is Poke Sallet? I've been wondering for months and I'm getting thin and haggard for the wnat of knowing.
Laird Glenalmond
: for those following news from your cross-planet sister city:
: On Saturday 18 October, in the dead of Poke Sallet season, Ladonia, Texas will unveil and officially dedicate its National Historical Marker. This is an honor granted by the United States Government toward cities more than 75 years old that have 1)evaded the sad fate of turning into ghost towns, 2)shown the gumption to fill out endless legal documents and applications, and 3)submitted US$850.
: In all, quite an honor in this fledgling democracy we call the US of A.
: I have been invited to introduce the descendents (all 5 of us) of one of the town's founders, my great-great-great grandfather James McFarland). The Ladonia News was so excited at the prospect of my appearance that they misspelled my name in the front-page story about the upcoming event. I couldn't be more honored.
: I'll take my camera to record the event, and maybe this time it will actually take pictures for me, unlike at last April's paean to Poke Sallet. : Betsy : p.s. The following URL for Ladonia, Texas, belongs to someone else, but she had the good grace to provide a link to this Ladonia on her homepage. Do drop by and thank her for the remembrance.
: (yer Minister of Poke Sallet, among other things)
